Just taking some notes in his pirate notebook.

He didn't even know I was taking this picture. He was playing on a playscape and singing at the top of his lungs. I love this about him!

So the monkey is freakin' awesome! He's sooooo smart and funny and I love him more than I ever thought I could. He sings songs, dances, tells stories and lives life to the fullest. We could all learn a lesson from him!

We're starting "school" next Monday. For about an hour a day we'll work on a different subject each day, including letters, numbers, colors and different "fun" subjects like music and art. We're going to try to take at least one field trip each week. Sometimes the trip might be to Target, but hey, it gets us out of the house.

He loves Christmas. Christmas movies, Christmas songs, the whole shabang! That's how I know he's my kid. ;-)

Yesterday we put up the "decorations fall" as Ewan refers to them and Ewan wanted to also decorate for Halloween and start wearing his Halloween costume...which, by the way, we don't even have all together yet. So instead he wore his Woody costume to church.

It's fun being Ewan's mom and I will never get tired of saying how lucky I am!

So, sometime in the past week or so, our son has crossed over into boyhood from toddlerhood. I love this kid so much but I am really missing the baby days.

He's really starting to speak very clearly, he sings lots of songs and has a memory like a steel trap!

Hi friends! Sorry I haven't posted lately. We've been really busy with the holidays, a wedding we shot, trying to sell our house and finding a new house.

Ewan is growing and learning every single day. He sings LOTS of songs now and sometimes even makes up his own. He feeds himself with a fork and spoon, he has a great imagination, he helps pick up his toys (after we ask him to do it seven times, of course), he has a great memory and can "read" several of his favorite books to us, he counts to ten (including 4, now), is starting to recognize a few letters (he sings the entire alphabet) and can spell his first name.

He's almost 37 inches tall and hovers around 35 or 36 lbs.

Decorating for Christmas

Hi everyone! The past couple of days Daddy, Papa, Ewan & I have been decorating for Christmas. I think we finished up most of it today although we still need to decorate outdoors once we decide what it is we're going to do out there.

Ewan put the Angel on the tree this year with some help from daddy. It almost brings me to tears thinking about the family traditions we're starting with Ewan now that he's old enough to do some of the decorating. He's really turning into a Christmas freak, too...like his Mommy. ;-)

Once we got the tree put together yesterday evening he ran around the house shouting "LOOK AT OUR BIG CHRISTMAS TREE!!!". And my heart melted when he looked at the tree and said "It bootiful, mommy."

I think it's going to be a great season!

A Letter to Santa

Yesterday we wrote Ewan's letter to Santa. I wrote the letter for him and Daddy helped him draw some pictures for Santa. Then we met up with Grammie and Papa and went to lunch and then went to Macy's to drop the letter into the mailbox, there. For every stamped letter to Santa that you drop in the mailboxes there, they will donate one dollar to the Make A Wish foundation.
When I asked Ewan what he wanted to say to Santa he replied with "Tick ah teet!". I'm working hard to get him out of halloween mode and into the holidays. ;-) He does sing Jingle Bells, Silent Night and "The Bah Dah Song" (Sleigh Ride with no actual lyrics except bah and dah). He can also identify which movie certain holiday songs are used in. When he hears a song that's in Elf he'll say "Buddy Elf movie!" and when he hears the Peanuts theme song, he says "Gate Pumpkin!". *sigh*
At any rate, here are some pictures from the day, including Ewan being silly with a pair of glasses from the Halloween Shop clearance section and a photo of Ewan's favorite toy at the moment, holiday Elmo.

Here are some photos of Ewan and Daddy carving Ewan's pumpkin. He calls it the "GATE punkin". He used to just call it the "gay punkin" but we emphasized the T sound at the end and now it's the gate punkin.
You will notice that Ewan's wearing big boy underpants, we let him wear big boy undies in the evening sometimes to encourage him to use the potty. In this first picture you'll see him putting his new fire truck inside the gate punkin. He got that truck for using the potty like a big boy.
And yes, his hair is wet. We like to do things a little backwards here in the Drum house. He had his bath before pumpkin carving. ;-)

Here are the two photos we entered into two different catagories for Detroit's Most Photogenic Baby. Ewan did a great job at the photo shoot and, of course, we had a hard time choosing these two. I will post more of the photos from that shoot in a couple of days. Busy weekend!!

We had quite a busy weekend. Friday we spent the afternoon with Papa Ernie and Cindy at the animal farm. It was actually closed but we were still able to see some of the animals through the fence and feed lots of geese and ducks. One goose even helped himself while Ewan wasn't paying attention.

It was so good to spend some time with Papa Ernie. I sure wish we got to see him more and I know Ewan does too. We ended the evening with dinner at Montana's in Sarnia with Unkie Mike, Stef, Aunt Stacey and Kenny. Ewan loves entertaining people and did a great job keeping us all laughing.

Saturday we spent the day with Grammie and Uncle Cale picking apples. It was such a beautiful day! And we had tons of fun!

Votes Needed, Please!

Hi everyone! I want to let you know that Ewan has been entered in the 'Detroit's Most Photogenic Baby' contest. We took him last weekend for a brief photo shoot and chose two of the pictures to enter into two different catagories.
There are two different ways he could win. There will be professional model and talent judges who will judge the photos and that will take place on October 10th & 11th and winners will be announced on October 12th. We are also collecting votes for him and the child in each age group with the most votes wins a trophy and the opportunity to be on The Children's Miracle Network marathon. Votes cost 50 cents each and all proceeds go towards the CMN. Also, any child who raises $100 in votes receives a cd of all the photos taken at their photo session. That is really our goal.
The money is collected on October 10th & 11th so please scrounge up what you can and donate to a great cause and help Ewan at the same time. If you'd like to donate and need more information, please feel free to email me at angela@drummultimedia.com.

We had such a fun day! We got to take Ewan to the kiddie parade at the Richmond Good Ol Days. He had such a good time with his friends across the street. Mister James (daddy) even caught some ping pong balls for the kids! Thanks, Mister James! ;-)
Ewan spent the evening with Daddy while I shot a wedding (check out my blog for pics...it was...different, for sure) and when I talked to him on the phone I could tell he was LOVING the 1-on-1 time with his daddy!

These are our awesome neighbors! They call Ewan "Loo-in" and I think it's adorable. When they are on their porch playing, Ewan stands in his bedroom window and yells "hi kids!". We're really blessed to have such great neighbors!

Brain surgery and an addition on the house.

Ewan and I were very busy today. First we performed a transplant on a horse and then we added a room to our house.

Ok, so it wasn't brain surgery, I just changed the batteries in his rock-a-pony (as he calls it) so it would sing again. But changing said batteries was actually quite an ordeal. I mean, you really have to dig in there to get the little box out and then you have to actually unscrew the top and add the batteries and screw it back on and stuff it back in there. Anyway, rock-a-pony can sing again. Yay!

And maybe we didn't actually build an addition onto our house but we did rearrange the breakfast nook (which we never use as such) in our kitchen and now it's Ewan's playroom. Lots of sunlight for him and now I have my dining room back!

Today's wow moment happened in the bath tub when Ewan started singing the alphabet song all on his own, not just filling in the blanks. It was awesome! He's so stinkin smart!

He's So Much Fun

Ewan is such a funny kid. He loves to smile and laugh and make other people laugh, too. This evening he was running around the yard with the awesome kids across the street and they were all laughing so hard. Delaney always says to me, "Miss Ange, I love Ewan's laugh." and that makes me smile, too.

I've been reading more and more about "gifted" children lately and I'm starting to wonder if Ewan is indeed gifted. I know he's advanced and what mom isn't proud of their child's development? But I'm really starting to think there's something extra special about Ewan's thirst for more knowledge and his ability to not just repeat but absorb and recall information. Anyway, he's awesome whether he's "gifted" or not. ;-)

Tonight is his first night going to sleep without a chachi. He fell asleep reading "Hop on Pop" to Joseph the monkey. Ewan's version of Hop on Pop goes something like this: Up pup up. *turn page* Hop pop pop. *turn page* Hop pop pop. *turn page* Hop pop pop. *close book* The end.

Also, I got him some really cute jammies from Steve & Barry's yesterday and put him in a pair of them tonight for bed. They are size 3T. When we went to check on him a few minutes ago, the right thigh was split right down the outside of his leg. He's got mommy's thighs...poor kid.

I'll try to take some photos in the next couple of days. Probably Friday I'll get some good ones. Tomorrow the girls I babysit will be here all day.

Yup. He's Testing His Boundaries.

So my mom and I took Ewan to the mall to get his bricks...er...feet measured. I knew he had big, wide feet but the shoes he has seem too long yet too thin for him. Well, it turns out he's a 9 or 9 1/2 extra EXTRA wide. That's right, TWO extras. Keep in mind that this boy is not even going to be two until December.
Anyway, he tried on a few $50 pairs of shoes which we carefully returned to the sales associate pretty quickly. Then we headed next door to Payless to see if they had any "holy cow he's only 1 and a half" sized shoes. They didn't but they had some cool Diego shoes with orange trim, which, if you don't already know, is Ewan's favorite color. Ewan was getting a bit fussy by this point. I'm talking, throwing himself on the floor kind of fussy. I put him in his stroller and was trying to talk to him calmly. Grammie tried to console him by asking him "Who's this?" and pointing to Diego. Ewan grabbed the shoe, hit me in the eye with it and threw it across the store. Yeah sure, it's funny NOW but I literally had to walk away from him for a minute.
So it's starting, the terrible twos. He's advanced in every other area of life so why not get the terrible twos started early, too, eh?
On that note, he's starting to fill in the blanks when we sing the alphabet and pause before random letters. He is counting higher and higher each day and I think he recognizes his name when he sees it; he definitely knows the letter W although he just calls it "double". He's absolutely a wonderful kid and we're absolutely going to keep him. ;-)

There are really two reasons for this blog. First to keep our family and friends who live long distances updated on what Ewan's up to these days. But also as kind of an electronic baby book. Hopefully someday Ewan can read these entries and know that we care about him tremendously. And on that note, I need to write a little note to him. You can read it too if you want. ;-)

So we took Ewan to the park today for a little while. He mostly played with daddy while I met with a customer to deliver some prints. He LOVES spending one-on-one time with his daddy. They played on the slide, which incidentally had a bit of static and on the swings and took a little walk on the beach. Both of my guys had such big smiles on their faces, it was truly an awesome time. =)

He's a Little Boy

He's definitely not a baby anymore. Complete sentences, asking to sit on the potty, trying to ride his bike and at least attempting to feed himself spaghetti. He's getting bigger and smarter everyday and even still, I'm blessed!

It's only 3:30pm and we've already had such a fun day! We met up with our neighbor and her three kids and went to the bounce house and had a blast. Then we grabbed a couple pizzas and headed to the park to enjoy a nice little picnic. The kids had so much fun and we are really lucky to have such awesome neighbors! Unfortunately I was too busy beating the high score on the free throw game and talking to T. to take any pictures. You'll just have to trust me, we all had fun! ;-)

First Camping Trip

This weekend we took Ewan camping for the first time. Grammie, Uncle Cale, Ewan and I endured the storms and cold and still had an awesome time.

Ewan's turning into quite a helper. He collected lots of sticks for the fire and helped me load the van when it was time to go.

Just as the wind picked up a big gust came and blew the screen tent up off the ground and blew Ewan's snack off the table. He looked at me like the world was coming to an end and said "OH NO! MY SNACK!" Once we got the screen tent staked down we all laughed until we cried over that one.

I think the most fun was during the storm on Saturday. Ewan and I hung out in the tent playing and wrestling and laughing. We also took a nice walk together and I especially enjoyed that time with him.

He's really a funny kid. He's started to say "Bless you." after someone sneezes...or burps...or farts. lol He also recognizes when someone's being nice or snuggly and says "Nice." and looks at us with this sweet face. Sometimes I catch myself just sitting here watching him. He fills my heart up with so much joy and love. We're really blessed!

On Saturday we spent a lovely day at the beach in Fort Gratiot. It was very windy and the waves were crazy so we didn't go into the water but we sat on the beach and let the waves hit us. Ewan had a lot of fun. Here are some pictures. Please excuse the beached whale to Ewan's left. ;-)

Awww Joseph!

So I've been babysitting a couple of girls for just over a week now. Ewan's not digging it and I don't know how much more of a chance I can give it before my son is permanently bitter against me. =( My son is more important to me than anything so I may be out of a job again already. I think if we weren't bringing other kids into HIS house where HIS mommy takes care of them and they play with HIS toys, things would be a little different. So maybe I'll do some substitue teaching in the fall and Ewan can go to day care or something. I don't know. Pray for us, please.

On a lighter note, when Ewan was 5 weeks old he was in the hospital for a week with RSV. While he was there his Gaggi (my mom) brought him a little blue monkey. Since he was in St. Joseph Hospital we named the monkey Joseph. This particular monkey in the following pictures is actually Joe Two because we the original somewhere. Luckily, the Hallmark store had the same one so we were able to replace Joseph.

Anyway, E loves his Joe (or as he calls him "Doh Doh") and he's currently snuggling him in a deep sleep. I love my little sensitive boy.

Air Margaritaville Concert

Tonight was the last of the Thursday night concerts in the park. The band Air Margaritaville performed again. They are usually the final and biggest concert each year. Ewan's fifth cousin (or something like that) Charlie is the bass player for the band. It was a great concert and Ewan had a lot of fun, tonight!

Low-Flying Adventures

This evening we decided to attempt to fly kites. The $10 fancy pants kite didn't make it off the ground. The $2 Elmo kite soared. That's how it goes, I guess. Anyway it was fun and Unkie BooBoos was cracking us up.

He's a Hit!

Tonight was another one of those Thursday night concerts that James has to record so we go to them. Let me give you a list of the funny things he does:
1. First kid in the bouncy and last kid out. In fact, I had to send some pre-teen girl in to hold his hand and show him to the exit or he would've jumped in there all night.

2. He wanders around the crowd giving people high fives, waving, saying "Hi!" and even hugging complete strangers as though it's his job to greet everyone.

3. He also waves, high fives and says "Buh bye!" all the way to the car. You know. Just so everyone knows the Ewan has left the building...er...park.

4. He walks right up to these groups of teen aged girls who are all standing around dancing and starts dancing and clapping.

5. Tonight he walked up to a little girl who was maybe 4 or 5 and held a full-blown conversation with her. I'm sure he opened with "hey beebee".

He's so friendly and smart and funny and yes, cute. We're blessed!

First Tantrum

Ho. Lee. Cow! This evening James and I had the pleasure of experiencing what we can only assume was Ewan's first full-blown tantrum. Screaming, crying, flailing about, banging his head into things, going limp everytime we tried to hold him, red eyes, dilated pupils, trying to hide under things that are floor level, etc. for the better part of 35 minutes. Finally I just grabbed him, wrapped him in my arms, rocked him and sang to him until he snapped out of it and asked for some milk. All this because he wanted some milk? Coincidentally, we met Ewan's new friends (the girls I'll be babysitting starting next week) today. He was sweet as pie while they were here. He shared his toys and even tried to share his little chair with the 1yo. This is a chair that he barely fits in by himself. The only thing I can figure (thanks to Jen) is that it set in after his nap that he's going to have to share his home and his mommy with some other kids and he just lost it. Poor guy. How do you explain to a one-year-old that it's only a few hours a day, a couple days per week? I'm sure he'll get used to it.

On a lighter note, he went right to bed in his big boy bed tonight. He even climbed up into the bed all by himself. *sigh* That and all the snuggles he gave us the rest of the evening make up for the episode earlier today. I love that boy so much!

A Schedule?

Am I crazy for giving this a shot? I'm going to try to provide a little more structure for Ewan by making and attempting to keep a schedule starting next week. I'm fully aware that it might not go exactly as planned but I'm going to give it a whirl.

"Fine Arts" will be singing, dancing, coloring, crafts, etc. "School" will be learning letters, colors, shapes, doing puzzles, etc. The goal is for him to have a bit more structure. Even if we stray from the schedule now and then at least we're trying. Wish us luck! =)

Today has been such a nice day. Ewan slept until 10:30am, we had breakfast and then headed out to take our pop bottles back and pick up some groceries. When we got home we had lunch and then went for a swim. We had so much fun in the pool! He's really a good swimmer! He's been sleeping for almost two hours and I think I just heard him in there calling for me.
I love these nice summer days!

He basically asked to go to bed in his big boy bed which he calls his "big beddy". We gave him some snuggles and took him into his room to say his prayers and he wouldn't even let me hold him to say his prayers. He wiggled out of my arms and laid down in his bed. I gave him his Jr. and Joseph and put a blanket over him and haven't heard a peep out of him since. I whispered to James in the hallway just outside his door, "It can't be this easy." lol I guess we'll see how it goes.

We scored a sweet Little Tykes race car bed on freecycle today and cleaned it up and set it up for Ewan. We'll see shortly if he will actually sleep in it yet, but at least we got it! I'll post pics later tonight or tomorrow.
I think James & I are more excited than Ewan is. =)

First of the Thursday Night Concert Series

James has to shoot these park concerts every Thursday night for the next couple of weeks. If you're a local friend or family and would like to attend email me and I'd be happy to give you directions and let you know what kind of music will be performed each week. This week was an eclectic covering of lots of old rock stuff. The band was ok and Ewan was cranky but still did pretty well. He jumped around in the moonwalk for a bit and then listened to a few songs, played with his big blue ball and then had a meltdown so we headed home. Daddy put him to bed tonight. Tomorrow will be a good day, I just have a feeling about it! ;-)

We had such a wonderful weekend in Kentucky! We left Thursday (July 3rd) at 11pm and drove overnight. We got to our hotel around 9am Friday morning and we were able to check in early and take a long nap. Friday afternoon we went to visit Papaw (James' grandfather). Ewan had a great time meeting him and Papaw's face lit up when Ewan walked in. Friday evening we wandered around the little town of Pineville taking some photos and ate at KFC. We had to eat at KFC because it was founded in Pineville. We took a few photos with the life-sized Colonel statue there, too.

Saturday morning we hung out in the hotel room since it was raining. We ate breakfast and had lots of snuggles in that giant king sized bed while we watched some Sponge Bob. We headed to the Baker family reunion at noon and had such a fun time meeting and seeing family. Ewan is such a nice kid and so friendly. He did so well meeting so many new people. After we ate, Ewan & I headed to the waterpark and did some swimming. Once we were both sufficiently waterlogged we headed back to the hotel for a nap. Saturday evening we travelled to Middlesboro and visited Mamaw (James' grandmother) at the nursing home. It was such a special moment when James introduced his son to Mamaw. James said "Say 'Hi Mamaw.'" and Ewan said "Hi Mamaw! Love You!". Even though she was unable to respond, I'm sure she was so happy to meet him and see her James again.

Sunday we woke up, ate breakfast and headed over to Papaw's to look through some old photos and listen to some stories from him, James' great aunt Sue and his aunt Euline. We headed out around noon for the long trip home.

Ewan was such a good boy, this weekend. His latest thing is asking "Do you see....?". All the way home, everytime we passed something he'd say "Mama, do you see cows?" or "Daddy, do you see big rig?" He's such a funny guy and we are so very blessed by him.

And last but certainly not least, big butter Jesus. As we were pulling away from this..."display", Ewan kept saying "Bye Jesus! Buh bye!".

Well we leave tomorrow for James' family reunion in KY. We're all really looking forward to it, especially Ewan meeting his great grandfather (Papaw). I'm not sure if we'll have internet so I apologize in advance if I don't get to post until Monday.

Ewan's latest thing is actually saying sentences. He'll use as many of his words as he can and fills in the rest of the sentence with "uggaugga" so it sounds like "Mama uggaugga reach uggaugga bah?" (Mama can you reach the ball for me?) and I say "What do you say?" and he says "Peeeeeeeesh?" He's so cool.

We're really and truly blessed!

Happy Half Birthday, Ewan B!

Yay! Ewan Baker is 18-months-old today! He had his 18 month well visit with his pediatrician today. He weighs 30.6 lbs, is 34.5 inches tall and his head circumfrence is 19.5. He's in the 95th percentile for height and weight and 90th for his big noggin. He's completely healthy, no wheezing, no fluid in his ears, nothing! And here's the big news: (which I already knew ;)) his doctor puts him at a little over two years old in his development. She is very impressed with his verbal skills, his ability to recall information without prompting, his communication (listening as well as speaking), comprehention and fine motor skills. =) The last thing she said to me is "Congrats, you've got a two year old on your hands." lol

Again, we're really and truly blessed by this boy.

Well, after only five days of VBS Ewan has started singing his first song, Power in the Blood. This child never ceases to amaze us. We were on our way home from VBS Friday night and Ewan kept saying "Pow! Pow!" and I could not figure out what he was saying. He's never played with guns so I knew he wasn't immitating that. Finally it hit me, we did sing Power in the Blood at least ten times in the last five days...could it be? And then he sang more of the song "Pow! Pow! Wanawana pow!" (Power, power, wonder-working power.) Amazing!

Then, yesterday as we were on our way to get "Ahh-keem n bahnans" (ice cream with bananas) we pulled up to a corner with a McDonald's on it and he said "Ticky? Fenfies?" (Chicken & french fries). Crazy! I know I'm biased because I'm his mom, but honestly, he's so smart. I don't think 18-month-olds (tomorrow) are supposed to be putting words together and recalling information like that, yet.

We're really blessed!

Oh and if you're wondering, Ewan got his daddy a t-shirt that reads "Dad Rocks!" for Father's Day. Ewan's got an amazing daddy and he's not too bad of a husband, either. ;-)

It's Ewan's daddy's turn to be in the hospital. He was admitted this morning with a sore and swollen throat. They're pumping him full of fluids, antibiotics and steroids. He was already feeling a bit better and was able to talk again when I left this evening. Hopefully he'll be able to come home tomorrow.

Uncle Cale's doing better and found out that he's been granted an extension on his exams. He will take the practicals when his hand has healed and will graduate once all his exams are finished. He goes in for a follow-up appointment tomorrow. There he will find out if he needs surgery and he will have his "real" cast put on if he doesn't need the surgery.

Ewan's been pretty good through all of this. It was a looonnnnngggg day at the hospital and we're really grateful to Gaggi for coming to pick him up and taking him to VBS (where, yes, he saw Bookie). As James and I sat there in that boring hospital room while E was at VBS we both agreed that we really start to miss him after about two hours. He's such a blessing!

It has come to my attention that Ewan will walk right past a group of boys to find a female of any age and say "Hi" and bat his eyelashes at her. He did this to several people tonight at Vacation Bible School and everytime I try to get him to say hi to a guy he just ignores me. Although he does give them high fives.

Yesterday when I was getting him ready for VBS I said "Are you ready for school?" and he kept saying "Watahhh!", his word for water. I thought he was just thirsty or something so I gave him a cuppie and we headed out the door. It wasn't until I asked again if he was ready for school and he tried to grab his alligator floatie and said "Watahh?" that I realized he must've thought I was saying pool, instead of school. So I then asked if he wanted to go to church to which he replied "Beebees?" and I know he was referring to the little girl babies. ;-)

Last night at about 10pm Ewan's uncle (my brother, Cale) crashed his motorcycle. He wasn't wearing his jacket because of the blasted heat and humidity here lately. He did have his helmet on and a t-shirt and jeans which are all ruined. He's got road rash covering about 20% of his body. Most of it is superficial but there are about four or five really bad spots. The worst of it, though, is that he shattered his right thumb just where the thumb meets the hand. As you may know, he is about two weeks from finishing his EMT training and has a couple important exams coming up. He is right handed and worried about completing the exams. Not only that but because he is in school and not working, currently, he has no insurance. The doctors in the ER are being VERY generous and will write off thier portion of his visit last night but he will still have a heafty bill from the visit and also bills from his visits (and possible surgery) to heal his thumb. We, as his family, will do everything we can to help out but we'd really appreciate you adding Cale to your prayer list. He's a good guy and just seems to be getting his life together and is really taking this set back pretty hard.

On a lighter note, Ewan is currently making up for the tornado having missed us by spreading as many toys, crayons & books all over the house as possible. All while wearing a Veggie Tales Christmas t-shirt, red pajama shorts with numbers on them, a batman cape and of course, his helmet.

We went sinning today!

So because it was hotter than satan's toenails today we headed to the pool for some sinning (swimming). All the way there (it's about a five minute walk) Ewan was sitting in his wagon saying "Hi sinning. Hi pooooool. Hi wataaahhhh." over and over again. And you guessed it! On the way out of the pool he said "Bye sinning, bye poooool, bye watahhh." So cute! He wears water wings while he's in the pool and has this little alligator ring thingy which he calls his "duckie". lol I didn't get a good picture of him today but here is one of him in a hotel in Chicago on his way to the pool:

The funny thing is, he's gotten about 3 or 4 inches taller since this photo was taken but that alligator floaty still falls right off of him. I'm looking forward to his 18 month well check in a couple weeks to see what his stats are.

Tomorrow we're taking part in our community sub sale. Gosh I hope we get rid of a bunch of stuff. I feel like this house is bursting at the seams.

Ewan's really fun. He really is. I love him very much. Yes I do.
What I can do without are the temper tantrums where he just goes completely limp and lays on the floor crying big fat tears. *sigh* Needless to say, it's been a long day.
I think it all started when he walked into our bedroom with his alligator floaty around his neck (instead of his waist) at 8am wanting to go "sinning" (swimming) and we said "Not right now." I think he knew that meant "Not today." and it all went downhill from there.
Tomorrow will be better...I hope. ;-)

Today we had the pleasure of attending an event called Tons of Trucks. James had to shoot the event so we met him there. We both thought Ewan would love the trucks and I really think he would've if he was the only kid there. There were trucks from all the emergency services departments and tow trucks and race cars and even jetskis...and approximately 2000 people. There were sirens and horns and probably 60% of the children under age three (including Ewan) spent a good amount of time crying. Great event. Not for toddlers, though. He did ok in one of the trucks but got progressively scared as the time went on. We'll try again next year, I'm sure.

Also, he's cutting his 13th & 14th teeth. God bless you, Mr. Hyland. You AND your teething tablets.

Today E & I went garage saling. He's so friendly. He makes friends where ever he goes and that is very cool. He's already so much cooler than I am and I'm totally ok with that. I love that everyone loves him...as they should.

He's really starting to put a few words together. Tonight when we offered him a chachi and asked if he was ready for bed he said "No tati, no nigh neet." Earlier this evening while we were browsing the toy department at Wal-mart he spotted some baby dolls with chachis in their mouths. He said "Baby tati keese?". I handed him the baby doll and he took the chachi out and kissed the doll then said "awwww" and snuggled it. It was hard to hold back tears. For sure my heart melted.

So he's cute, funny, smart, talented & sensitive. I should start taking applications for future wives now, eh? ;-)

We had a wonderful long weekend with a trip to Port Huron for the Feast of the Ste Clair and lots of outdoor fun with all this nice weather!

He's saying more and more all the time and really starting to put a few words together. It's so nice not to have to sift through the whines and cries to try to figure out what he needs. It's amazing to me that at 17 months old he's already able to communicate so well. He's such a cool kid!

So this afternoon Ewan was playing quietly in his room, which always makes me nervous, while I folded laundry. Just as I was finishing up folding a load of jeans Ewan wanders out into the living room with his Sponge Bob bucket on his head like a hat.

The Bedtime Routine.

Well, for as long as Ewan's been alive (and on a schedule) the bedtime routine has been a bath (usually with Johnson's Bedtime Bath), brushing teeth (since he's had teeth), a baby massage (with Johnson's Bedtime Lotion), a story, prayers and laying him down in his bed with Joseph (the blue monkey) and NaNaNa (Jr. Asparagus who sings "na na na" to the tune of "God is Bigger than the Boogie Man).

As you know, Ewan is learning new words each day and often surprises us with a word we didn't know he knew. Tonight was so exception. The word of the day today is "'sage". As in, massage.

Also, he now says "sentences" and ends them with words he knows. For example: "Awwohhhwaahhhhohhahh BIKE!" of "Ohhhahhwawawaaaahhh DADDY!"

Today she had kids who were great at stuff. One 2yo could point out different countries on the map and they showed a 7yo who could play the accordian. So why didn't they call Ewan? I'm so incredibly blessed!

Ewan is so friendly. As we waited for our table at brunch today he made sure to say "hi hi hiiiiieeee" to everyone, including a 6 week old baby in her carrier. He had smiley face pancakes and chocolate milk for brunch. He was a bit wound up the rest of the day...to say the least. When he crashed, though, he crashed hard and the three of us all got to take a nice long nap late this afternoon.

Ewan hung out with Grammie for a while tonight while James & I got to go see a movie. It was certainly a nice treat. I just went in and checked on Ewan and he's sleeping with his legs tucked under, booty high up in the air. =)

Hung out at the freak show...er...flea market peddling our goods. I scored a djembe (African drum) for just $5!!! Ewan & I have been playing it all day. ;)
We didn't sell very much but we had fun and can afford gas for the coming week, now. lol

Ewan surprises us with new words & actions everyday and today was no acception. His newest word is "oop" (oops) and when he accidentally broke a little dish while we were at the trade show he kept saying "oop" and "oh noooo". It was the first time I saw him consciously feel bad for something and it made my heart melt. Poor guy.

His eye is looking much better and we're excited about the prospect of all three of us being healthy at the same time again soon. ;)

He woke up this morning with some goopy stuff in his eye and it continued to drain all day. I took him in this afternoon and the dr. said it's pinkeye. Poor monkey!
He has to have drops in his eyes every four hours for a week. He's not acting any different, though. Still silly as ever and flirted with all the nurses in the office.
I'm sure everything will be fine in a couple days.

Ewan woke up this morning, I snuggled him and changed him and set him on the floor at which time we normally walk out to the kitchen to get breakfast. This morning, though, he didn't follow me so I went back into his room to see what was up and he was holding his new helmet trying to put it on himself. He wouldn't leave the room until I put it on him. So I did. And now, an hour later, he's STILL wearing it. *sigh* My special boy. ;) Nothing's cuter than a toddler in his jammies proudly rocking his helmet.

4. About three hours later I wish I could wake him up and play with him. Even though I often sarcastically refer to myself as "mom of the year", I don't go so far as to wake him in the middle of the night out of selfishness. ;)
